International Yoga Day Celebration

The Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi during his speech at the UNGA, on 27 September 2014, first proposed the idea of the International Day of Yoga. He stated, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well-being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day”.

Since the commemoration of International Yoga Day (IYD) in 2015 by the United Nations Organisation, 108 SN Team have played a major role in celebrating this annual event since then. To mark this occasion in a significant way, the team organized a month-long celebration beginning from 21st May up to 21st June. These included a series of events designed to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga and Surya Namaskars. This provided an opportunity for individuals from all walks of life to learn about and experience the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga.

In the past, more than five thousand participants have taken part in the celebration and performed 108 Surya Namaskars. This highlights the impact that 108 SN Team have had in promoting yoga and its positive effects on individuals and communities.

The celebration of IYD serves as a reminder of the importance of this ancient practice and its role in promoting health and well-being in today’s fast-paced world.

The celebration of International Yoga Day by the 108 SN team includes performing 108 Surya Namaskar at various locations of great significance. These locations have their heritage value, cultural importance, architectural significance, and artistic value. By performing the Surya Namaskar sequence at these locations, the team aims to connect with the locals and create awareness about yoga through the art, culture, architecture, and ancient heritage. The IYD 108 SN Celebration is a wonderful example of how yoga can be used to bring people together and promote cultural integration while also celebrating our shared heritage.
